UL Data

RibbonLite is UL listed for Class 1 operations in dry, damp or wet locations. Maximum transformer rating: 1000va. Load-rating: 25 amperes. Note: UL and some jurisdictions allow only a 20 ampere maximum lighting circuit. RibbonLite should be installed per local codes, standard practices and the NEC.

Design & Specification Parameters

To design with and specify RibbonLite determine the following variables:

  • Style & Color*†
  • Socket Spacing
  • Lamp type
  • Lamp voltage
  • Accessories
  • Model Numbering
*available in white <W> or bronze <BZ>
†style RBX available in white <W> only

Style

<RBH>: Use for all indirect lighting applications where the fixture will be hidden from view. May be curved to a 24 inch radius where the fixture will curve in a plane perpendicular to its base. This product will not curve in a plane parallel to its base. The product can, however, be mounted on its edge to accommodate base-parallel curves. Available in white <W> or bronze <BZ>.

<RBV>: Use in applications where the fixture is in view. May be curved to a 24 inch radius where the fixture will curve in a plane perpendicular to its base. This product will not curve in a plane parallel to its base. The product can, however, be mounted on its edge to accommodate base-parallel curves. Available in white <W> or bronze <BZ>.

<RBX>: Use in applications where extreme, compound or curlicue curving is required. Available in white <W> only.

Lamp Voltage

RibbonLite lamps operate on <12> or <24> volts. Low voltage transformers are required. Transformers can also be used to lower the operating voltage in order to increase lamp life. Liteworx offers a complete line of magnetic and electronic, dimmable low-voltage transformers. See Transformers for more information.

Loading: Although RibbonLite is built to handle loads up to 25 amperes, it should be noted the product has been engineered this way to enhance the ruggedness of RibbonLite and to promote cool-running of the fixture, rather than to encourage users of RibbonLite to load the fixture to its maximum capacity. In fact, UL and many jurisdictions limit the load of lighting circuits to 20 amperes. In addition, standard practices often dictate that electrical circuits should be derated 20%. For example, even though a fixture is rated 25 amperes, and even though codes allow a lighting circuit to be loaded to 20 amperes, in actual practice, the load in any single lighting circuit really shouldn't exceed 16.66 amperes (20 amperes derated 20%). It is specifically recommended here that specifiers and installers build a safety margin into any electrical system by never loading a circuit to its maximum capacity.
